ANZAC SERVICE

On ANZAC Day, a number of students proudly represented Balcombe Grammar through readings and the laying of wreaths at both the Dawn Service and 10am Service in Mornington. A big thankyou to all involved. Then the following day, Thursday 26 April Balcombe Grammar held its ANZAC Service where we commemorated together the sacrifice of those who have served our country, and their families. It was a great honor to have Mr Noel Scott give the ANZAC address. Mr Scott trained at the former Balcombe Army Apprentices School, served in Vietnam and Borneo, and then came back to Balcombe as a Trainer at the Army Apprentices School. Mr Scott’s address was warmly received by the students. He is a much loved local and a grandparent to Jett and Jazmine Pitt. Primary students placed poppies made from old plastic bottles as they gathered around the School’s memorial. Following the Service the Balcombe Grammar community enjoyed a morning tea served by Year 9 Pop-up complete with ANZAC biscuits.

YEAR 10 PATHWAYS

On Tuesday 24 April the inaugural Year 10 Pathway Breakfast was held in the School Hall. We were very lucky to have eight parents with from a number of different backgrounds volunteer to reflect on their pathway journey from school to now. The different stories and presentations resonated with the students who are varying stages of their own pathway journey. It was a pleasure to host the event and a number of the parents are already looking forward to next year.

SECONDARY HOUSE ATHLETICS

The Secondary House Athletics were scheduled for Thursday 19 April and it would be fair to say I was a little worried that the weather would be against us, but no, the sun gods were shining down. Mace Oval was once again ready to showcase our wonderful students as they endeavoured to run, jump and throw to the best of their ability. This year we started with each House taking part in a team warm up running around the track and this set the tone for a day of wonderful competition which was fun, challenging and done with great respect for others. We then started with the 800m and although very few had initially signed up for the event, lots of students from all age groups made their way to the start line for some excellent races. The number of students involved throughout the day was amazing with each event full. It was particularly pleasing to see our Year 12 students all getting involved - a legacy that continues. There were some notable individual successes from all Houses, but overall it was team work that once again got Norman House across the line to become our 2018 champions. Thank you once again to Todd Martin and Mornington Little Athletics for transforming Mace Oval into a fantastic athletics arena.
