Last week the rocking ‘80s came to Balcombe with the arrival of the 2018 production of Rock of Ages! Over 60 students took to the stage or worked behind the scenes on highly acclaimed performances of this fun jukebox musical.

The audience loved being taken back to the 80s rock scene with classic tunes such as ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’, “We Built This City” and many more.

After months of hard work and rehearsals, the cast and crew should be proud of their work as they all demonstrated commitment, professionalism and talent throughout the process.

Congratulations to all.

On Thursday, Year 6 students enjoyed a visit to Melbourne to view the special exhibition ‘Colony: Frontier Wars’ at the National Gallery of Victoria, helping us to understand Indigenous perspectives on the arrival of the First Fleet. Following from our guided tour we participated in an energetic afternoon learning Bollywood dancing, accompanied by a great deal of laughter!

On Tuesday 22 May, we travelled to Baxter Park to take part in the SIS Cross Country. While the conditions made an attempt to rain on our parade, the Balcombe spirit didn’t waiver. We started off with the seniors and worked our way down the age groups, with every student showing what we are all about as a school. Some even punched above their weight and ran against participants from higher grades, all the while doing an amazing job. The competition wasn’t easy but our quality showed, as we brought back many of the pennants from various year levels. As the results were read to us, many of our athletic students landed a spot in the top three for their event. Each and every time this occurred, a loud cheer could be heard, as we celebrated their achievements as a group. Eventually, as the presentations neared a conclusion, we were announced as the aggregate winners of the day, which led to a massive amount of jubilation. Chants, cheering and songs rang out, as we looked back on our successes with pride. Overall, it was an amazing day, and one that I’m glad I was there to witness.

Individual Winners: Jack Carter Year 8 & Holly Jacoby Year 9

Team Winners: U13 Girls, U14 Boys, U16 Boys, U16 Girls & U17 Females
