HELP US KEEP EVERYONE SAFE

Arriving at school to drop-off and pick-up students can be a very busy time and extra caution should be exercised. We ask all members of the BGS Community to please remember:

  • Parents are encouraged not to arrive at school for afternoon pick-up before 2:45pm
  • If possible, consider arriving from 3:20pm onwards in the afternoon
  • Observe speed limits in and around the school grounds, and when using Mace oval or the Balcombe Pre-school carpark
  • If all kiss and go spaces have been taken, please park in the gym carpark until the kiss and go chain starts flowing
  • Respect local neighbours and their right to access their driveway
  • Give yourself plenty of time to find suitable parking once you arrive
  • Keep pedestrian crossings and footpaths clear
  • Do not stop in a bus stop or bus zone
  • Always give way to pedestrians
  • Always be patient and polite to other road users
  • Please respectfully follow any instructions given by Balcombe staff or crossing monitors, in particular during periods of congestion

Please note the Kiss & Go zone is for flowing traffic only. Please move to the space closest to the front of the line.

Parents who wish to park for a period of time must use the Gymnasium car park.

HOW TO USE THE KISS & GO ZONE

The Kiss & Go Zone (see maps above) is designed to ensure efficient operation of the zone, we ask the community to please abide by the following guidelines:

  • To help keep this zone congestion free, there is a 2-minute limit between 8am-9:30am and 2:30-4pm
  • Drivers are to remain in their vehicles at all times in the Kiss & Go zone
  • Make sure passengers use the left hand side doors only to get in and out of the car
  • Where possible cars can shuffle up to the next free space while waiting - this allows cars to enter the Kiss & Go zone from the back, rather than attempting to parallel park during busy times
  • Encourage your children to move quickly out-of-school so they are ready to hop in the car when you arrive
  • To assist with traffic flow, cones are placed in this space up until 3:00pm.

NO DOUBLE PARKING

It is important that we all park legally to provide a safer environment for pedestrians.

Double parking not only restricts the view of drivers, it forces children onto the road and obstructs the flow of traffic.

A driver must not stop a vehicle between the centre of the road and another vehicle that is parked at the side of the road, this includes vehicles parked in marked parking bays.

Please use the Kiss & Go zone or park in a designated parking bay.

USE THE DESIGNATED CROSSINGS

It is dangerous to cross outside of the designated crossing areas, particularly where there is a high volume of traffic. Please remember to use the STOP LOOK LISTEN THINK procedure to check that vehicles have stopped and drivers have seen you before you walk across the road.

NO CROSSING IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL GATES

Walking out past the front gate of the school is extremely hazardous due to the high volume of cars entering and exiting the school. In the interests of the safety of everyone we ask all families to take a little extra time to use the crossings provided.

ENSURE DISABLED PARKING AREAS ARE USED CORRECTLY

You are not allowed to park in parking bays that have a disabled parking sign or road marking, unless you have a valid disabled parking permit.

Balcombe Grammar has two dedicated parking areas - one in front of the gymnasium and the other in front of Pod C.

CHILDREN AND PETS MUST NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN CARS

In Victoria it is an offence for a person responsible for a child to leave the unattended for any longer than is reasonable, without making appropriate arrangements for the child’s supervision and care. This includes leaving a child unattended in a car.

Never leave your child or pet alone in the car, even for a minute. Parked cars can get hot very quickly. Even on cool or overcast days or when the car is parked in the shade, the temperature inside a car can rise to dangerous and even fatal levels very quickly.
